“T.R.,” as the family called Ted, passed away peacefully Dec. 27, 2025, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, looking forward to seeing his wife, Lavonne, again.

Ted was born near Post Falls on Nov. 8, 1931, to Lester Lloyd and Marie (Long) Lloyd, the youngest of three boys. After attending elementary school, the family moved to Otis Orchards, Wash., in 1946, where Ted graduated from high school in 1949.

He spent the next two years working at Kaiser Aluminum and on the Cabinet Gorge Dam, while saving his money for college. It was during this time that he met Lavonne Ham and knew it was to be a lifelong love.

They married on New Year's Eve, 1951. Then the fun began; first came Don, then Kelly, Tim and finally Rick during the next five years while Ted attended the University of Montana in Missoula.

After finishing school in 1954, he started his 35-year banking career in Missoula, then in Havre and Polson, Montana and finally in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

He was a hunter, fisherman, golfer and runner (17 Bloomsdays and 1 Marathon at 52 years old).

As the boys were grown and gone by the time Dad and Mom were in their mid-40s, they had the rest of their lives for travel, until warm weather became a must. They spent many winters south, first in St George, Utah, and then Lake Havasu, Ariz. Throughout all of that, the Coeur d’Alene home remained the home base for the 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren to visit. Their one-acre yard became a golf course, soccer field and many other activities the kids thought up.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gene and Jim; his wife of over 71 years, Lavonne; and his son, Tim. He is survived by his sons: Don, Kelly and Rick; along with 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Beacon Clinic, Kootenai Health, Legends Park, North Idaho Hospice and all the doctors and staff over the years and during his final days.

At our parents’ request, there will be no services. The family will gather for a celebration of life this coming summer.

If you wish to honor Ted’s legacy, please consider a donation to Hospice of North Idaho in his memory (2290 W. Prairie Ave, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815). Please visit Ted’s online memorial and sign his guestbook at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
