Pay, classification study to cost Coeur d'Alene $55K

The Coeur d'Alene Generals Services Committee will consider an agreement with BestDay HR for a citywide classification and compensation study at its meeting at noon Monday in the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Community Room.

The total proposed cost for the project is $55,000. 

The project will evaluate and update the city’s existing compensation framework, which was last revised in 2017. 

"There have been enough changes in the job market over the last nine years that it will be beneficial to review the entire plan," a staff report said.

This project is expected to take about 12 to 14 weeks to complete. 

Any work that exceeds the projected cost will be billed at the consultant’s hourly rate of $185 per hour. In the 2025-2026 budget year, Human Resources has $30,000 budgeted for the study. The remaining amount needed to complete the study will come from Human Resources professional services and savings and the city’s fund balance, the report said.

An updated compensation plan will address the wages other employers pay for similar work, "which directly relates to the City of Coeur d'Alene’s ability to attract and retain qualified employees," the report said.
