Greenchain wrestlers handle Browning, Whitefish, second at Ronan tourney

The Libby Greenchain wrestlers are off to a strong start in 2026.
Libby’s trip to Whitefish Tuesday, Jan. 6 was a success with the Greenchain collecting a 66-17 win over Browning and 66-12 over the host Bulldogs.
Libby wrestlers had six pins over the Indians. 118-pounder Bridger Bache decked Nathaniel Marry in 1:00, 132-pounder Jeremiah Thomas stopped Mason Gordon in 38 seconds, 144-pounder Gabe Kosters decked Bowman Klauk in 1:54, 150-pounder Tristen DeShazer stopped Germaine LazyBoy in just 21 seconds, 157-pounder Jackson Riddle took 26 seconds to pin Talvin Champ and 215-pounder Ian Thom pinned Ethan Skunkcap in 1:35.
Maddux Stow won by injury default at 138.
Libby also had four wins by forfeit, including Barrett Moe (103), Levi Nick (110), Tanner Wolfe (175) and Brysen Miller (190).
Browning’s wins came at 126 pounds when Trey Spotted Bear pinned Damon Anderson in 1:01, and at 165 with Kayne Burke scoring a technical fall over Alex Reatz, 16-0, in 4:29. 285-pounder Kade Bullshoe won by forfeit.
Against Whitefish, Libby collected eight forfeit wins and three falls in a 66-12 win. No match was held at 285 pounds.
On the mat, Libby won three matches by fall and Whitefish had two pins.
At 132, Thomas needed 1:43 to deck Whitefish’s Luke Sol Bonds, at 138, Stow stopped in Achius Lee in 1:01 at 138, and at 165, Urijah Bache pinned Jaxson Flint in 1:51.
The Bulldogs two wins were at 103 with Paxton Elm pinning Moe in 51 seconds and 215 with Sam Akey pinning Thom in 3:37.
Last weekend in the Ronan Tournament, the Greenchain crowned one champion and had 12 wrestlers place between second and sixth. Their 260.5 points was second overall, just one-half point behind Frenchtown’s 261.
Tanner Wolfe (175) was 4-0 to claim the Greenchain’s lone first place.
Second place finishers included Bridger Bache (118), Ian Thom (190) and Jeremiah Thomas (132).
Claiming third was Boe Miles (157).
Placing fourth were 165-pounder Alex Reatz, 285-pounder Hunter Nelson, Hunter Rooney (175) and Levi Nick (110).
Finishing fifth were Brysen Miller (190) and Tristen DeShazer (150).
Placing sixth were Jackson Riddle (150) and Maddux Stow (138).
At Ronan, the Libby girls team was 13th in the team standings with two placewinners, including runner-up Meghan Connelley at 170 pounds and Lilly Harcourt, fourth at 140.
Friday, Libby heads to Missoula for the Rocky Mountain Classic. Jan. 20, the Greenchain travel to Eureka for the Battle of the Kootenai. The wrestlers are scheduled to compete at 3 p.m.
Libby’s first home matches are Saturday, Jan. 24. They’ll be joined by Bigfork, Browning, Frenchtown and Hamilton.
