SANDPOINT — Sandpoint police, along with the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Marshals, closed the 1200 block of Cedar Street for about four hours Monday as they worked to coax a suspect from an apartment in the area.
Sandpoint police said in a statement they located a man wanted on outstanding felony arrest warrants. In the statement, officials said the man barricaded himself inside an apartment and there were indications he had a firearm.
Following the four-hour standoff, the suspect was taken into custody without incident, according to the police department’s statement.
“I want to express my sincere gratitude to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office team for their dedicated assistance during these challenging times,” Sandpoint Police Chief Corey Coon said in the statement. “I appreciate our community’s understanding and patience as we worked toward a resolution.”
In the statement, Coon said the man had two outstanding warrants — one for grand theft and one for battery. This is an ongoing investigation.
