I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 13, 2026 1:00 AM

BOYS

Grangeville 63, Priest River 62

GRANGEVILLE — Senior Ian Lamanna chalked up a game-high 18 points and pulled down six rebounds, sophomore Jacob Best amassed a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, but the Spartans' final shot from the corner as the buzzer sounded hit front iron and the Bulldogs came away with a 3A Central Idaho League win on Saturday afternoon at Grangeville High.

Junior Ayson Simcox tallied nine points, all from 3-point range, and senior Lucas Mathews recorded nine points, including a 3-pointer, and a team-high four assists for Priest River, which trailed 49-40 in the third quarter before Simcox tied the game at 51-51 with 6:30 remaining in the fourth after hitting a shot from downtown.

Grangeville then led 58-54 late before Lamanna sunk two free throws and converted a steal-and-score to tie the game. The standout shooter then knotted things up at 60-60 with a long-range two-pointer in transition. With under 30 seconds to go, the Spartans had a handful of chances, but could not find nylon for the go-ahead basket.

Priest River High head coach Brian Hall said he was very happy with his team's drive and determination on the court, but an 18-for-34 effort from the charity stripe in what was a physical league matchup certainly made a difference.

"It's not the greatest percentage, but we had opportunities we had not seen in our previous games," coach Hall said of his Spartans, which attempted just two free throws the night earlier in their matchup against Orofino. "The team is playing hard and the signs are getting better for us as a team."

Bear Wilcoxon had 13 points, including three 3-ppinters, and dished out five assists for Grangeville (1-8), which outrebounded the Spartans by a 45-39 margin to capture their first win of the year.

Sophomore Madden Redinger and senior Dawson Strange also hit 3-pointers and scored seven and three points, respectively, junior Broden Collins had three assists and two blocks, and Lamanna, Best and Collins all had two steals apiece for Priest River (2-6), which will host league-leading St. Maries (6-1) on Thursday for another 3A CIL matchup.
