MSU's Chirrick is again Big Sky's top player

FARMINGTON, Utah — Sophomore Taylee Chirrick is making a habit of this.

After scoring 24 and 23 points in two wins, the Montana State guard out of Roberts was named the Big Sky Conference women’s player of the week a fourth time this season. 

Chirrick had 24 points and eight rebounds in a 72-70 win over Eastern Washington Thursday; she went off for 23 points and seven boards in the Bobcats’ 99-66 rout of Idaho on Saturday. She finished the weekend shooting 17 of 28 from the field, including 7 of 11 from the 3-point arc; she had a total of 10 steals and nine assists as well.  

Chirrick is second in the Big Sky in scoring, averaging 18.8 points a game for Montana State, which is 11-4 overall and 4-0 in Big Sky games heading into Saturday’s 2 p.m. home game against intrastate rival Montana. Northern Arizona’s Naomi White leads at 23.0 ppg; Kyleigh Brown of Portland State (18.6) and Montana’s Mack Konig (18.1) rank 3-4. 


Chairwoman of Board 

Eastern Washington’s Kourtney Grossman has claimed the top spot in the nation in rebounding, at 13.1 a game. 

The sophomore forward has 209 total rebounds and is the only player in the nation to have two 22-plus rebound games. 


PSU’s Minott honored

Portland State’s Tre-Vaughn Minott, who torched Sacramento State for 23 points and 20 rebounds in the Vikings’ 96-69 win Saturday, is the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball player of the week. 

The senior also added four blocks and his 20 rebounds is the most in a game by a Big Sky player this season. He leads the league in rebounds at 9.2 per game; PSU leads the league at 3-0. 

  

Money is money

Through 17 appearances Montana’s Money Williams is the Big Sky’s leading scorer, averaging 19.5 points for the Grizzlies as they head to Bozeman to play Montana State Saturday night.  

Portland State’s Jaylin Henderson is second at 19.0 and fellow Viking Terri Miller Jr. sits in third at 18.9. 

Patrick McMahon is the MSU Bobcats’ top scoerer at 14.6 ppg, 10th in the Big Sky.

PSU’s Johnson is the Big Sky’s leader in steals, with an average of 2.6 per game. Northern Colorado’s Quinn Denker leads the league in assists, dishing out 6.7 per game in 15 appearances. 

Idaho State’s Evan Otten leads the Big Sky in blocks, with 30 on the year for an average of 1.8 per contest.
