Emergency responders quickly arrived to assess the situation, while students were evacuated to the Old Priest River Junior High School Priest River Elementary Principal Lynn Parker said in a statement. Parker said school is in session for today, Jan. 14.

“We are thankful for the quick response of emergency personnel and for the calm and cooperation shown by our students and staff,” Parker said in the statement. “Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work together to keep our school community safe.”

During the evacuation, students were released to parents and guardians after their IDs were checked. Parker said staff used the school’s new Raptor Emergency System to make sure every student went home with an approved adult.

Parker encouraged parents with questions to contact the school office for more information.

“This is a great example of how the district works to assure the safety of students and staff, communication action taken to show empathy and support, and rely on plans in moving forward with follow as needed,” West Bonner County School District Superintendent Kim Spacek said.
