Courtesy photo The Hooptown Blazers 2031 AAU girls basketball team won the Winter Select Series in Las Vegas last weekend, an event which attracted teams from all over the country. The Blazers were down 11 points in a pool play game vs Prodigy out of California before pulling out a tight win. In the semifinal Hooptown won another tough game vs Primo Soldier Basketball Club. In the championship game, Hooptown Blazers played its best game of the tournament, blowing out a team from San Diego (SES). The next big tournament for Hooptown will be the Select Series Championship in Seal Beach in California at the end of the month. Blake Wise scored the first goal with a PK. Taylor Smith assisted Pax Longanecker for the second goal. The shutout was maintained by Grant Johnson and Landon Brinkmeier. On Sunday afternoon the Sting played on Mercer Island vs. Athletico Rojo and won 9-0. Isaac Lowder (27, pictured above) scored a hat trick. Brooks Judd, Ethan Luna and Mason Taylor each had one assist and two goals. Taylor Smith had two assists. Grant Johnson and Landon Brinkmeier again teamed for the shutout in goal.

Courtesy photo The Coeur d'Alene Hockey Association 13U Thunder won the Kimberley 13U Tournament this past weekend in Kimberly, British Columbia, going undefeated against some strong Canadian teams. The Thunder was the only U.S. team in the tournament and held their opponents to seven goals in five games. The defense was led by Benjamin and Jameson Whitcomb, Owen Peterson, Gio Balsimo, Daniel Ploof and Max Spencer, in front of goaltender Remington Price. Angelo Brown led all scorers with nine goals, including the game winning goal in the finals with only 28 seconds remaining against the other undefeated team, the Kimberley Dynamiters, breaking the 2-2 tie and securing the championship. Kingston Howard, Jaxon Wabs, Emmett Borjessan, Jase Van Valin, Jack Magnus, Finn Nelson, Cason Terracciano and Brixton Turrell added goals and assists for the Thunder, which beat Chestermere 11-1, Creston 4-0, Trail 4-2, Rockies High Country 8-1 in the semifinals and the Kimberley Dynamiters 4-2 in the final.
