The Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women scholarship program will begin preparations for the 2026–’27 program year with an orientation meeting later this month.

All junior girls in the Class of 2027 who are interested in participating are encouraged to attend the orientation at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Boundary County Middle School library. The meeting will provide an overview of the program, answer questions and distribute required participation paperwork. Parents are encouraged to attend.

Distinguished Young Women is a scholarship and honors program that recognizes and encourages excellence while promoting self-esteem among young women. Participants compete for scholarship awards in several categories, including interview, scholastics, talent, fitness and self-expression. They may also take part in the “Be Your Best Self” program, which is dedicated to the service of others and community awareness.

The winner of the Bonners Ferry Distinguished Young Women program will represent Bonners Ferry at the Idaho State program in October 2026 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Should she win there, she will then travel to Mobile, Alabama, as Idaho’s Distinguished Young Woman to compete at the national competition in June of 2027.

Last year the local Bonners Ferry program awarded more than $13,000 in cash scholarships to local participants to use at the college or school of their choice.

Founded in 1958, Distinguished Young Women has impacted the lives of more than 782,000 young women nationwide. The organization’s mission is to empower high school young women by providing scholarship opportunities, building self-confidence and teaching life skills needed for success in college and beyond.
