Sandpoint Future to host 45 teams for annual invitational next weekend

SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Future basketball club will be hosting 45 teams for the 6th annual Sandpoint Invitational set to be held Jan. 23 through 25 at various locations in the Greater Sandpoint Area.
The tournament, which is set to be the largest in its history, will feature boys and girls teams ranging from third through eighth grade, with games taking place at Sandpoint High School, Sandpoint Middle School, Farmin Stidwell Elementary School, Kootenai Elementary School and North Summit Church.
11 Sandpoint Future teams will take to the court while 34 others from across Idaho, Washington and Montana will be in attendance. There will be 90 games throughout the weekend, with tip-off starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. The cost for a day pass is $5. Seniors (65-plus) and kids (18 & under) are free.
Sandpoint Future and the Sandpoint High girls and boys basketball programs partner to run the event, with profits going directly back into the high school programs.
Sandpoint Future is a nonprofit, volunteer-based basketball club based out of Sandpoint, Idaho. The mission of the club is to offer athletes within the Lake Pend Oreille School District the opportunity to develop fundamental skills and a competitive nature through basketball, instilling the values of character, teamwork, discipline, respect and sportsmanship.

Choate to speak at football coaches clinic in Worley
WORLEY — Nevada head football coach Jeff Choate, a former St. Maries High star and former Post Falls High football coach and athletic director, will be the keynote speaker at the Vertical Raise Coaches Clinic, scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Coeur d’Alene Casino.
A total of 18 other speakers with NFL and college football coaching experience, including Washington State, Boise State and the University of Idaho, are also expected.
The cost is $50 per coach, or $400 for a staff of eight or more per team. The clinic is free to current Vertical Raise Customers. Registration is from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. on Feb. 21.
Choate is scheduled to speak at 8:30 a.m., followed by three hours of speakers, lunch, a Q&A with WSU staff members, three more hours of speakers, and will end with a semi-hosted social.
