Idaho State Police partnered with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance to raise awareness of human trafficking along Idaho’s transportation corridors during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.  

According to the ISP, traffickers often rely on highways and commercial transportation routes to recruit and transport victims. Because of this, officials said it’s essential for community members to stay informed and educated about Idaho’s roadways, as it can be critical in identifying victims and preventing harm in the future.  

The five-day awareness initiative began Monday and ran through Friday.

ISP officials received specialized training in 2025 to better recognize trafficking indicators and will share that knowledge with drivers and community members throughout the week.  

“As commercial vehicle enforcement professionals, we see the road from a unique perspective,” Capt. Jason Bailey of ISP’s Commercial Vehicle Safety Division said. “This initiative is designed to equip drivers and carriers with the ability to recognize potential signs of trafficking and to report those concerns. Increased awareness and informed reporting can make a meaningful difference for victims and our communities.” 

ISP reported that Idaho recorded 39 trafficking-related convictions between 2020 and 2024, seven of which were felonies. The Idaho Office of the Attorney General noted that it can be challenging to identify and prosecute trafficking cases, most of which typically involve force, fraud and coercion, according to ISP.  

Officials encouraged individuals to report suspected human trafficking to the National Trafficking Hotline, which is a federally authorized, 24/7, confidential resource.
