PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lakeland Paddles Sandpoint ... Hoffman, Hawks take challenge, roll past Sandpoint

RATHDRUM — After being tested in one rivalry game on Tuesday, Lakeland showed up to Battle on Friday night. 

Freshman Jaeli Hoffman scored a game-high 29 points, 17 in the second half, for the Hawks in a 66-38 win over the Sandpoint Bulldogs in the Battle for the Paddle spirit game at Hawk Court. 

“Our girls came out with a real sense of urgency and togetherness, responding exactly how we challenged them to after the Timberlake game,” said Lakeland coach Caelyn Caufield, whose team lost 57-51 at Timberlake on Tuesday. “Jaeli was lights out on both ends of the floor.”

Following the game, Lakeland won the Paddle for the eighth straight year.

Sophomore Willow Betz scored 10 points for Sandpoint (13-4, 3-2 5A IEL), which travels to Garfield-Palouse on Monday. 

Senior Karstyn Kiefer scored 13 points for Lakeland (13-3, 3-0), which travels to Lewiston on Tuesday.

KELLOGG — Sophomore Malena Munoz scored nine of her 14 points in the first half for the Wildcats in a Central Idaho League win over the Maniacs at Andrews Gymnasium. 

Senior Dani Henrikson had nine points and 11 rebounds, sophomore Peyton Storey nine rebounds and junior Jordyn Stutzke 11 points and five steals for Kellogg (9-4, 4-0 CIL), which hosts St. Maries on Tuesday. 

“Jordyn had an excellent defensive game again,” Kellogg coach Jana Nearing said. “It was a great team effort again tonight with some momentum-shifting hustle plays by Munoz and Storey.” 

Alina Paul and Kaitlyn Curtis scored eight points each for Orofino (5-8, 2-1).
