PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Timberlake Brawls past Bonners Ferry

BONNERS FERRY — Junior Macy Murphey scored 19 of her game-high 27 points in the first half for Timberlake in a 79-53 win over Bonners Ferry in an Intermountain League opener in the Backwoods Brawl spirit game at Bonners Ferry High on Saturday. 

Murphey also had five rebounds, four assists, five steals and two blocks for Timberlake, which outscored Bonners Ferry 28-10 in the second quarter. 

“Bonners Ferry came out shooting the ball really well and hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller, whose team trailed 13-5 early on. “We started making some shots and steadily started scoring the ball. We moved the ball really well and did a good job of touching the paint and finding people.” 

Senior Malia Miller had 24 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals and freshman Elly Milligan had 11 points and six rebounds for Timberlake (8-5), which hosts North Central on Tuesday. 

Freshman Jaycee Bateman scored 19 points for Bonners Ferry (9-6).

Junior Courtney Johnson scored nine points for Lake City (7-9), which travels to Coeur d’Alene on Thursday. 

Brooklyn Becker scored 15 points for Moscow (8-9), which is scheduled to host St. Maries on Thursday.

SOMERS, Mont. — Senior Chelsey Cate had 14 points and 10 rebounds as the visiting Royals beat the Crusaders at Somers Middle School. 

Sophomore Hollie Smith had 14 rebounds for North Idaho Christian (6-10), which lost 56-35 to Stillwater Christian on Friday night in Kalispell. Sydney Ellis had six assists and five steals for the Royals, and Madison Salaiz had four assists and six steals. 

Katelyn Burlingame led Flathead Valley Home School Association with 11. 

North Idaho Christian School plays at Kingdom Christian on Tuesday in Spokane.
