PREP WRESTLING: White wins at Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic

MISSOULA, Mont. — Coeur d’Alene senior Rocco White beat Keegan Hunt of Butte (Mont.) 10-4 in the finals at 110 pounds in the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic at Sentinel High on Saturday. 

Coeur d’Alene sophomore Dylan Coulson (second at 103), senior Justus Peregrina (second at 118), freshman Cole Armstrong (third at 126), senior Tanner George (third at 132), junior Dominic Prangley (fifth at 144) and sophomore Logan Nitti (seventh at 150) also placed for Coeur d’Alene, which finished fourth out of 32 teams with 173.5 points. 

"We're missing some bodies, but we overachieved," said Coeur d'Alene coach Jeff Moffat, whose team was missing wrestlers at four weights due to illness, and entered just 10 wrestlers. "Rocco was just solid all weekend and is hitting his stride at the right time. He's been wrestling well the last few weeks."

Lake City junior Solomon Crowley (sixth at 132), sophomore Caden Ramey (seventh at 144) and senior Tucker Bridwell (seventh at 165) placed, helping the Timberwolves finish 20th. 

Timberlake senior Shelby Garten pinned Taylor Dorvall of Whitefish 1:06 into the 130-pound final to win the girls Rocky Mountain Classic at Hellgate High. 

Lake City sophomore Poppy Schenk was third at 140, senior Aspen Kiser fourth at 145 for the Timberwolves. 

"We wrestled really well," Lake City girls coach Nathan DeLeon said. "We're excited where we're sitting right now."

Cd'A's Miller, Anderson, Sandpoint girls

win at Clearwater Classic

LEWISTON — Coeur d'Alene sophomore Micah Miller went 7-0 to win a round-robin bracket at 98 pounds at the 40th annual Clearwater Classic at Lewiston High. 

Sophomore Nash Larsen (third at 120), senior Riley Berger (third at 175), sophomore Drake Speelman (third at 190), junior Colton Rush (fifth at 126), senior Mason Rogers (fifth at 138) and sophomore Milo Cord (sixth at 157) also placed for Coeur d’Alene, which finished fourth with 164.5 points. 

Kellogg junior Colton Storey (113) and sophomore Carsun Hinkelmann (126) won titles for the Wildcats, who finished runner-up with 191.5 points. 

Lewiston won the tournament with 191.5 points. 

Coeur d’Alene senior Brooklyn Anderson went 3-0, winning all three by pin, to capture the 190-pound title in the girls tournament. 

Sophomore Murphee Balich (third at 100) and sophomore Jaiden DeTienne (fourth at 105) also placed for Coeur d’Alene. 

Junior Isabella Stark (130), Vanessa Hood (135), junior Teagan Newsom (145) and senior Lilli Marti (235) claimed titles for Sandpoint, which ran away with the girls team title with 189.5 points. 

Scholes second, Younger wins 

at Tiger-Grizz Invitational

IDAHO FALLS — Post Falls senior Xander Scholes finished runner-up at 285 pounds in the Tiger-Grizz Invitational at Skyline High, falling to Sidi Kante of Madison 3-2 in the finals. 

Junior Matthew Hamilton (third at 132), senior Colton Austin (third at 157), senior Gage Loftin (fourth at 113), sophomore Sawyer Sage (fifth at 138) and senior Zane Smith (fifth at 215) also placed for the Trojans, who finished fourth with 199.5 points. 

Meridian won the boys tournament with 253 points. 

Post Falls senior Emma Younger beat Gracie Price of Thunder Ridge by an 8-1 decision to win the 120-pound title in the girls tournament, also at Skyline High. 

Sophomore Kahli Brown (third at 130), sophomore Kassie Voss (fifth at 235) and senior Sophia Stewart (sixth at 135) also placed for Post Falls, which finished fourth with 123.5 points. 

Thunder Ridge of Idaho Falls, which claimed the girls River City Duals title last weekend in Post Falls, won with 185 points.

BONNERS FERRY — Wyatt Carey (120 pounds) and Chris Schmidt (165) had pins for the Tigers, who beat the Badgers in the Backwoods Brawl spirit dual at Bonners Ferry High. 

Timberlake won three matches via forfeit. 

Timberlake competes next in the North Idaho Rumble Jan. 30-31 at Coeur d’Alene High.

St. Maries, with six champs, win

Magic Valley Classic title

WENDELL — Junior Kelby Harvey (144 pounds), senior Zach David (150), senior Amado Stewart (157), senior Aiden Yearout (165), senior Zack Sotin (190) and senior Rustle Brusseau (215) claimed titles for St. Maries, which won the Magic Valley Classic at Wendell High. 

St. Maries finished with 181.5 points in the 26-team tournament. 

"The boys really wrestled well," St. Maries coach Dennis Humphrey said. "All six in the finals came through for us. We only took 10 kids, with seven scorers, so there's not much more we could have asked of them. It was good to get some southern head-to-head matches."

Junior Clintin Hansen (sixth at 132) and junior Kristoffer Brusseau (fourth at 190) also placed for St. Maries.
