Horsemen look to escape heartbreak hotel
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 4 months, 3 weeks AGO
The Plains High School gym has been a heartbreak hotel of sorts for the resident Horsemen so far this season.
In the latest edition of tough luck, singing the basketball blues at home, coach Tyrel Allen and his Horsemen absorbed a tough 47-43 defeat at the hands of county rivals Thompson Falls in Plains Thursday.
On the road in Seeley Lake Friday, the Horsemen fell 63-41 to the homestanding Blackhawks, one of the better Western C teams around this season.
Sitting at 0-1 in conference action and 0-9 overall, the Horsemen have their biggest weekend of important road games of the season this week, playing at Mission Friday and at Eureka Saturday in a pair of conference tests.
The Horsemen had the Blue Hawks on the ropes but could not quite knock them out Thursday, and the Hawks were able to take advantage late. Trailing 37-25 after three quarters, the Hawks got hot at the right time and won the fourth quarter 22-6 to snatch the win away from the Horsemen.
“It was the same thing as in some of our other close losses this season," Allen said. "We had a lead but made some silly mistakes at bad times, let Thompson Falls build some momentum late in the game.”
Sweet-shooting Jarrett Weeks drained a couple of 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead the Horsemen against TFalls, in addition to grabbing a team-high six rebounds. Eddie Siebert and Tristan Allen added seven points apiece, Jackson Revier six, Cooper Meredith four, Jeff Siebert two and Ben Aldridge one.
At Seeley Lake Friday, Meredith bucketed 15 points to lead Plains, Aldridge scored eight, Eddie Siebert six, Weeks five, Allen three and Chase DePoe and Kylan Bostick two each.
Blake Irwin and Derrick Brovold led Seeley with 18 points each and Jay Garland added 11.
