On Thursday, Jan. 15, Bonners Ferry boys junior varsity basketball faced off against the Clark Fork Varsity team at home and won by one point in a thriller. Despite fielding a team of six freshman, the Badgers were able to take the win, thanks to a nine-point comeback in the game’s final minutes.
Freshman Dallon Baisden scored 26 points, including the winning free throw with 17.6 seconds left and the Badger defense only allowed the Wampus Cats to shoot a contested three-pointer that missed to seal the win for Bonners Ferry.
Freshman Gordon Woelfle, freshman Brydin Weymer, Baisden, junior Broden Buckhanan and junior Landon Hart started the game. Buckhanan also featured in the overtime thriller against Lakeside on Jan. 13.
A slim Badger lead to start the game was quickly wiped out by Clark Fork, who took the advantage to lead 21-17 at the end of the first quarter. Landon Hart made two shots with a minute left in the first half to turn a nine-point deficit into just five points.
After closing the gap to just two points, the Wampus Cats extended their lead to seven with one period left to go. That lead grew to nine, was still seven with three minutes to play before freshman Brydin Weymer swished a three-pointer.
Sophomore BoDee Scarborough hit a two pointer, but Clark Fork made a two-pointer before Baisden hit a two himself. Weymer made the steal and laid the ball up to tie it before Baisden won the game with a free throw.
