In a press release, investigators are confident they have identified the deceased individual. Official confirmation of the individual’s identity is pending verification from the Montana State Crime Lab.

Additional information will be released once next of kin has been notified.

"The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the community for the tips and information that have been provided," Sheriff Darren Short said in the release.

According to a Tuesday news release, sheriff's dispatch received a report at 10:44 p.m. Monday about a person who was struck and killed by a train.

Deputies and detectives from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded and located a deceased male.

BNSF employees said the man was sitting on the tracks facing away when they saw him. They were unable to stop the train, it struck and killed the man and no identification was found.
