Friends let's shake those (sort of) winter blues away.

If you know, you know that February in the Flathead Valley cues up some of the most original Montana events to be had on snow.

Yes it's that time of year where horses and skiers team up for some hoot-hollering Montana fun This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Whitefish Skijoring For two action packed days – February 14th & 15th – you can enjoy this thrilling winter sport where horsepower meets skipower Faster horses higher jumps and more fun are in store for spectators and competitors alike starting on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. at 1530 West Springcreek Road in Kalispell – one mile north of West Reserve in Kalispell. Head to Fatt Boys Bar and Grille in Kalispell on Saturday night to place your bets in the Calcutta Auction where you can honor your favorite team for a chance to win money based on race results. The family-friendly action picks up again on Sunday with an 11 a.m. event start. Awards and the Calcutta payout take place at Midway Tavern and Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. Save a few bucks with presale tickets at WhitefishSkijoring.org or pony up at the gate A truly Montana and western experience don't miss the 20th anniversary of the Whitefish Skijoring. Yeehaw!

The weekend of Feb. 14th and 15th are also host to the beloved and rowdy Cabin Fever Days taking place in Martin City, Hungry Horse, and Coram. and I KNOW you've got it in you to attend both the Skijoring and the Barstool Races to maximize your snow-sliding fun. Yes folks, many dedicated locals have been working on their barstool sleds and costumes since last year's event and are ready to take to Sugar Hill in support of the first responders of Bad Rock Canyon. Join in the fun with a kids sled race, arm wrestling competition, snowshoe softball, DJ sets and live music.

Stretch your winter party legs and get warmed up for Skijoring and the Barstool races with the Whitefish Winter Carnival on Feb. 6th and 7th. Slide in the Beer Curling competition at the Northern, dress in your most stellar duds for the Gala at Whitefish Lake Restaurant, take a chilly dip during the Penguin Plunge, witness the grandeur and fun of the Grand Parade, and shake it off with a pancake breakfast the next morning. There is no better way to pray for snow than at the Whitefish Winter Carnival. It's Out of this World

But hey there is so much more happening this shortest month of the year:

The Northwest Montana History Museum is once again hosting its popular John White Speaker Serie.s on Feb. 1 Kira Powell takes a peek in the past of Fire Lookouts. Feb. 15 explore significant sites of traditional Blackfoot places of creation and prehistoric presence with Souta Calling Last. Marty Boehm tells us everything we ever wanted to know about ALERT on March 1. Reserve your seat early as the John White Speaker Series are typically sold out. Find more information and tickets at FlatheadTickets.com.

Rock the party on Feb. 1st at the Remington in Whitefish for a unique chance to groove to Skratch Bastid and his genius DJ set with support from our favorite local talent JC and Eroc. This is a not to miss event Get your tickets at FlatheadTickets.com.

The 4th Annual Soles of the Flathead takes the stage on Feb. 6 in support of the Flathead Warming Center. Check out your community's hidden talent for extravagant dance. Mingle with local celebrities and influencers while indulging in tasty treats.

Take in a unique performance at the O'Shaughnessy Cultural Arts Center in Whitefish on Friday, Feb. 6 as the Whitefish Theatre Company presents Bassel & the Supernaturals. Echoing Stevie Wonder’s rhythm and blues Jamiroquai’s social justice centered lyricism over jazz-infused funk and Steely Dan’s seamless blend of American music, Bassel & The Supernaturals evoke joy and thoughtfulness from audiences across the globe

Gallop, don't walk to the Wachholz College center on Wednesday, Feb. 11 for the double album release tour of Big Richard and Della Mae. These two all-woman string bands have fire in their veins. They throw down a run of unapologetically rowdy razor-sharp shows that flip tradition on its head. Truly this is not to miss

For various dates and times Feb. 19th to 28th, the Whitefish Theatre Company presents The Odd Couple. Hailed as one of the greatest comedies of all time follow the journey of two suddenly single pals as they navigate their friendship as mismatched roommates.

Dig out your sequins and heels, book the limo and head to an Adult Prom Night at the Buffalo Saloon in Bigfork on Saturday, Feb. 21st. All proceeds benefit the Bigfork Youth Center (formerly Bigfork Aces).

It may be the shortest month, but February is packed full of winter fun. Thanks for tuning in to the Daily Inter Lake's Local Events podcast I'm your host Melissa Wells reminding you that the more you do the more you do.

See you all at the Whitefish Skijoring on Feb. 14th and 15th Watch me take to the air as my best steed races me down the course. I'm just horsing around. My horsepower smells like two-stroke.
