Katherine Hawes from Kalispell, who is a student at Southeastern University in Florida, was awarded a P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education Grant from the Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood.

Sponsored by P.E.O. Chapter D of Whitefish, Hawes is pursuing a master’s degree in mental health counseling, with an anticipated graduation date of Dec. 15, 2026.

The Program for Continuing Education was established in 1973 to provide need-based grants to women in the U.S. and Canada whose education has been interrupted and return to school to complete a degree or certification that will improve their employment skills. Since its inception in 1869, the nonprofit organization has helped more than 129,000 women pursue educational goals by providing approximately $462 million in grants, scholarships, awards and loans.
