PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Priest River defeats Clark Fork in non-league showdown
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 hours, 39 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 21, 2026 1:00 AM

PRIEST RIVER — Sophomore McKinley Burgess-Duquette tallied a game-high 14 points, sophomore Haylee Jepson-Church and freshman Haley Rice each hit two 3-pointers and registered 11 points apiece, and the Spartans used a 30-11 second-half scoring advantage to defeat the Lady Cats in a non-league matchup held Monday night at Priest River High.
Senior Aleigha Jensen also splashed a 3-pointer and had seven points while sophomore Courtney Whitaker added three points to the stat sheet for the Lady Spartans, which snapped a five-game losing streak with the victory.
Freshman Vanessa Rogier splashed two 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 10 points, seniors Piper Scarlett and Priscilla Mayorga recorded five points and one 3-pointer of their own, and sophomore Gracie Stevens contributed two points for Clark Fork, which trailed just 16-11 at halftime.
"We got some good looks and just couldn't get the results," Clark Fork High head coach Chris Cavanaugh said. "On the other end of the court, our defense was good overall, but we got beat up on rebounding. We can't give up that many offensive rebounds and expect to win."
Clark Fork (4-8) will look to get back into the win column today when they travel to Kootenai for a non-league matchup.
Priest River (6-7) will travel to Spirit Lake to take on Timberlake's junior varsity team on Friday.
