Mark your calendars for Friday at 7 p.m. at Christianson Gymnasium as North Idaho College hosts Big Bend Community College of Moses Lake in the final home wrestling dual of the season.

This event promises top-tier competition and emotional moments as NIC honors its departing sophomores.

Wrestling fans are in for a treat as the last three weight classes — 184, 197, and heavyweight — feature head-to-head battles between nationally ranked wrestlers. These matchups are expected to deliver high intensity and showcase the best in collegiate wrestling.

KEEP AN eye on Ray Griffin, NIC’s heavyweight from Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Last season, Griffin faced defeat against the Big Bend heavyweight, who returns again this year. However, this is not the same Ray Griffin — he’s gained invaluable experience, developed tougher mental resilience, and is ready for a fierce rematch.

Griffin’s determination is evident, and he’s hungry for victory in what promises to be a hard-fought brawl at center mat.

TWO OTHER NIC wrestlers deserving attention are Colton Theobald at 165 and Dylan Block at 174.

Theobald, from Payson, Utah, was sidelined last season due to elbow surgery but has returned stronger as a medical redshirt freshman.

His mat wrestling has seen significant improvement, with enhanced riding skills and a knack for turning opponents for back points and pins.

At 174, redshirt freshman Dylan Block from Great Falls, Mont., has also shown remarkable progress.

Under the guidance of NIC assistant coach Bryce Parson, Block has refined his riding and turning techniques — evident in his recent pin against a Clackamas opponent. Both wrestlers are poised to make a major impact in Friday’s dual.

FRIDAY WILL also be sophomore night, as NIC pays tribute to the wrestlers moving on after this season. The following athletes will be recognized for their dedication and contributions to the program:

Ray Griffin — Pleasant Grove, Utah

Forrest Howell — Kalispell, Mont.

Gabe Lake — Kalispell, Mont.

Jackie Webb — Boise

Hoyt Hvass — Lewiston

With top-ranked matchups, inspiring comeback stories, and heartfelt goodbyes, Friday’s dual at Christianson Gymnasium is set to be a memorable night.

The fire in Ray Griffin’s eyes signals that fans are in for an electrifying contest. Come out and support the NIC wrestling team in its final home appearance of the season.
