Timberlake 79, Bonners Ferry 53

Facing a Timberlake team ranked 29 in Idaho, this game was always going to be a challenge and so it proved. Freshman Jaycee Bateman scored a team-high 19 points, but it wasn’t enough as the Badgers lost in the Backwoods Brawl, 79-53. 

The start of the game looked as if it would be a different result, with a 10-3 Bonners Ferry lead following three-pointers from Bateman and freshman Bristol Hill. However, Timberlake went on a 16-5 run to end the first quarter with a 19-15 lead. 

The second quarter was by far the worst for the Badgers, as they conceded 28 points while only scoring 10 to go into the halftime break down 22. 

Following intermission, the third quarter started similarly to the first, as Bonners Ferry cut into the deficit, which dropped to 13 points before it ended with the Tigers up 62-44 with one quarter to go. Timberlake finished off the game with a 17-9 quarter in their favor to win the game.  

Jaycee Bateman scored her points on an adjusted field goal percentage of 53%, also adding six assists and six rebounds.  

Bristol Hill made three three-pointers at a 50% clip. Junior Eva Willis had eight points and five rebounds. 

Taren Bateman added nine points, six assists and four steals. Junior Nolie Hiatt was two points away from a double-double, scoring eight points and grabbing ten rebounds. Sophomore Kayle Petersen had four rebounds, her second most this season. 

The Badgers will next play at home against Colville on Jan. 23 at 5:45 p.m.
