James H. Flanigan, 90

James H. Flanigan, 90, of Oldtown, Idaho, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 12, 2026. He was born Oct. 31, 1935, in Spokane, Wash., and passed away in Coeur d’Alene.

He joined the Navy/Air Force right out of high school and proudly served for 10 years. 

He met the love of his life, Mary Ellen, in the third grade and never left her side. They had been married for 58 years when she passed away Nov. 10, 2012. 

He was a water well driller, a skill he learned from his father-in-law, Leroy Ray. He also taught this trade to his son, Dan, and they worked together for many years. 

His favorite place to spend his free time was at the family lake cabin on Upper Twin Lakes.

He is survived by his children: Daniel (Karen) Flanigan, Colleen (Glen) Akins, Maureen (Glen) Carey, Jamie (Matthew) Ray and Mary Ellen Flanigan, as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Kathleen Ely.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 612 W. First St., Newport, Wash., with the rosary preceding the service at 10 a.m. A reception will follow downstairs.
