SPIRIT LAKE — A few shots here and there and Timberlake was back on track.
Senior Malia Miller scored a game-high 24 points and had eight steals, four rebounds and three assists for 4A Tigers in a 62-30 win over the 3A Grangeville Bulldogs at Timberlake High on Friday.
“I thought we played a really good first half, but just didn’t make many shots,” said Timberlake coach Matt Miller, whose team lost 65-60 to 2A Lapwai on Thursday. “We were just kind of cold in the first half, but we were making the same shots in the second half that we were taking in the first half.”
Timberlake outscored Grangeville 29-9 in the third quarter.
“We came out aggressive and shot the ball really well coming out of halftime and that got us rolling,” Matt Miller said. “We got some second-chance points and that really helped as well.”

SPIRIT LAKE — Senior Brant Rush made six 3-pointers and scored 28 points as the Tigers beat the visiting Bulldogs in nonleague play.
“Brant had a good game shooting the ball overall,” Timberlake coach Juston Henry said, “but his biggest shot was a buzzer beater at end of the third from half court. That gave us a six-point lead and the momentum starting the fourth.”
Junior Wade Van Gundy, who had missed the last three games, added nine points for Timberlake (4-8), which snapped a six-gane losing streak.
“Was nice to have him,” Henry said, “and it brought some energy that had been missing.”
Junior Mason Shively added six points and seven rebounds for the Tigers.
“Mason has been really playing good all-around basketball these past four games,” Henry said. “He does a lot of work on defense that really stands out, but doesn’t show up in the stat sheet.
“That was a must-needed win for the kids,” Henry added. “We had some good spurts tonight but still need to get better on not turning the ball over. “
