Road restrictions approved, partial release of surety

SANDPOINT — Seasonal road restrictions could be implemented in the coming months after the Bonner County Board of Commissioners approved a request allowing the Bonner County Road and Bridge Department to post restrictions on applicable county roads.
Although community members may not immediately see restriction signage, Road and Bridge Director Jason Topp was pre-approved to impose restrictions as weather conditions warrant.
At this time, no restrictions are in place.
“Right now, everything has been looking good, so we’re just wanting to get it done so that when we do need it, we’re not trying to get this approved in front of the board beforehand,” Topp said.
The board’s approval will allow the department to post weight and hauling limits on county roads to minimize potential damage by protecting infrastructure and public safety. According to a memorandum submitted to the county, restrictions, when put in place, will remain in effect until the end of spring thaw, as determined by the Road and Bridge director.
In other business, commissioners also approved a partial release of surety for the Bahia Del Sol subdivision following the completion of required infrastructure improvements.
According to a memorandum submitted to the board, project applicants entered into a surety agreement with the county after receiving approval to construct private roads and complete stormwater, road, and water and sewer improvements in compliance with Bonner County Revised Code. The applicants submitted a performance bond equaling 150% of the engineer’s estimated project cost.
Following the completion and sign-off of the infrastructure improvements, applicants requested 50% of the amount of surety to be returned, amounting to $526,546.50. Commissioners unanimously approved the request, amending the remaining bond to reflect the adjusted surety bond.
