COEUR d’ALENE — Junior Brookeslee Colvin scored 39 points for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in a 68-45 win over the Post Falls Trojans at Viking Court on Saturday, clinching the 6A Inland Empire League title and top seed to the district tournament.

“Our main focus was was more about getting a better start at the beginning of the game,” said Coeur d’Alene coach Stacy Boyd, whose team led 22-10 after the first quarter. “The last few games, we’ve had slow starts and had to dig ourselves out of the hole before we were able to get settled in. We are slowly cleaning that up, and I think we figured that out today and played with more energy, pace and a sense of urgency.”

Coeur d’Alene (18-2, 4-0 6A IEL) will face either Post Falls or Lake City in a best-of-3 championship series, with that winner advancing to state Feb. 19-21 at the Ford Idaho Center in Nampa.

Junior Brooklyn Reese scored 22 points for Post Falls (6-14, 1-2), which hosts Lake City (7-10, 0-3) in the regular season finale for both on Friday to determine which of the two teams hosts a district loser-out game on Feb. 7.

“Post Falls played us hard and crashed the boards and we gave up too many second-shot opportunities,” Boyd said. “At times, they pressured us, and we usually respond to pressure well, but tonight we sat back and watched a lot, and didn’t execute like we should have. We will build off tonight and get back to the drawing board.”

Coeur d’Alene travels to Lakeland on Tuesday to conclude the regular season.
