The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) and Kiewit Infrastructure Company began geotechnical investigation work along Highway 93 near Post Creek last week. In a press release, the MDT said work will continue through the end of February and said its schedule has fluctuated due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.

In this initial phase of work, crews will drain water from existing wells and install additional wells. According to MDT, these efforts are key to monitoring and managing the unique aquifer conditions at the project site, in preparation for future construction.

The geotechnical project will occur between Dublin Gulch Road and McDonald Lake Road. Once dewatering is complete, crews will construct and load-test shaft foundation elements in preparation for finalizing the design of the new Post Creek Bridge.

According to MDT, traffic on Hwy. 93 will be impacted while crews are working. Drivers can expect alternating single lane, one-way traffic with signals facilitating traffic movement from each end of the work zone.

Lane closures will become more consistent as crews assess equipment needs during the first few weeks of work. All road work will take place during daylight hours.

MDT advises travelers to “expect delays and be cautious of workers, equipment, and other drivers when traveling through the work zone.”

Active construction to install a northbound truck climbing lane and Post Creek Hill and a bridge spanning Post Creek is anticipated to begin in late summer.
