Pinehurst man convicted of unlawful firearms possession

COEUR d’ALENE — Michael William Luma, 48, of Pinehurst, was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison for unlawful possession of firearms, U.S. Attorney Bart M. Davis announced Monday. 

According to court records, in November 2023, law enforcement received notification that gunshots were coming from Luma’s Pinehurst residence on multiple nights. Luma's prior felony conviction for aggravated assault prevents him from possessing firearms.

After securing a search warrant, law enforcement searched Luma’s residence and found a large drill press, a 3D printer, several “ghost gun” components, thousands of rounds of ammunition, large-capacity magazines, and 16 firearms, including multiple machine guns and silencers. 

When contacted at his home, Luma had a loaded handgun magazine, 11 fentanyl pills, a half gram of methamphetamine and a methamphetamine pipe in his possession. 

Chief District Judge Amanda K. Brailsford also ordered that Luma serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence, and that he remain restricted from possessing firearms following his conviction.
