Devil boys hurt by injury
Valley Press-Mineral Independent | UPDATED 3 months, 3 weeks AGO
As far as injuries go, this one hurts more than most, and not just the player that went down.
Red Devil standout player junior Shane Hatchel went down with a severely sprained ankle during Noxon’s 72-28 loss to the Tigers in St. Regis Friday. Noxon coach Trever Kayser said Hatchel is expected to be out for several weeks.
Already on a razor-thin budget for experienced players to throw into battle before this injury, Kayser will be even more hard-pressed in that area now.
“It’s tough but it is what it is,” he said. “We will make do with what we have and go on from here. We don’t have any games this week because of the Hot Springs boys dropping out, so we do have some time until our next game.”
Indeed, the Devils are next scheduled to play Feb. 5, hosting Alberton, giving Kayser and crew time to make adjustments to Hatchel’s expected absence. Before getting injured Hatchel was one red-hot Red Devil.
Against Thompson Falls, all he did was drop 35 points on the Hawks, getting most of those points from way over the top on long 3-pointers, finishing with seven of them in the game. Shane really went off on the Hawks in the fourth quarter, canning four of his treys and 17 of his points in the game, in the final eight minutes.
Fighting through foul troubles, Justice Kayser threw down three straight treys in rapid succession in the second quarter and finished with 11 points for Noxon and Fletcher Segura added four.
