Lady Tigers building excitement

The St. Regis Lady Tigers are building excitement one game at a time.
Taking their latest steps up in the basketball world, coach Zack Lott and his Tigers won one and lost two in three home games last week, falling 42-26 to Hot Springs in a District 14C conference game Tuesday, defeating the Lady Red Devils 58-18 Friday and dropping a 58-57 decision to Troy Saturday.
Lott and company have two District 14C games on tap this week, hosting Alberton Tuesday and visiting Charlo Saturday.
Coach Lott was pleased with his team’s collective efforts. “I’m happy with the weekend, the girls continue to play well,” he said, “they seemed to be catching a spark, getting some momentum in the game with Troy.”
Lott said free throw shooting may have short-circuited his girls in that game as his team converted only five of 15 attempts in the game while Troy reached the free throw line 12 times in the fourth quarter alone.
“It was a very exciting game right until the end,” Lott said. “And it was another game where our girls showed their grit, they battled Troy really well.”
Against Troy, Shelby Simkins scored 14 points to lead the Tigers, Shannon Todd and Lilly Sansom added 11 each, Emma Gillette seven, Daisy Sansom and Khila Teeters six apiece, and Mae Grosenbaugh two.
Aspen Orr led Troy with 21 points and Olivia Hall and Nauticka Larson added eight each.
Versus Noxon, Todd led all scorers with 14 points, Gillette scored 12, Lilly Sansom 10, Teeters nine, Simkins six, Grosenbaugh four and Jacey Pruitt three. See other story for Noxon scoring.
Against Hot Springs, Simkins and Gillette led the Tigers with eight points each, Todd and Teeters added three apiece and Pruitt two. See other story for Hot Springs scoring.
