I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 27, 2026 1:00 AM

GIRLS

Sandpoint 57, Lewiston 38

SANDPOINT — She's a tough cookie.

Despite nagging injuries over the years, Jordyn Tomco has fought through it all, and that was no different on Friday night when she poured in a team-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers, to go along with five rebounds, three steals and two blocks as the Lady Bulldogs took home an important 5A Inland Empire League win over the Lady Bengals at Les Rogers Court.

Junior Brecken Mire contributed a double-double of 12 points, 10 rebounds and dished out six assists, junior Carly Laybourne 10 points, including a 3-pointer, four assists and three steals, and junior Livia Driggs eight points, including two 3-pointers, two assists and two steals for Sandpoint, which led 28-23 at intermission and used a 19-5 third-quarter scoring advantage to ultimately seal the deal.

Sandpoint High head coach Madi Schoening said she was proud of the way her team played, especially on the defensive end, as her Lady Bulldogs compiled 24 turnovers and forced Lewiston to drive to the left often in the second half.

"It was a super fun game — fun to see the girls play together and make those extra passes; we talked a lot about that at halftime..." Sandpoint High head coach Madi Schoening, who also noted the fun atmosphere on the court and in the stands, said. "Jordyn lit it up for us tonight, both in the first and to start the third quarter. Brecken played a well-rounded game and found her teammates in transition well. Some shots falling for Carly, Jaylah, Livia down the stretch lifted us up even more. Loved that we were able to get back into our defensive scheme... it was a good night to regroup and get back to doing what we do best."

Paytland Schnell had eight points and six rebounds for Lewiston, which is now 7-10 on the year.

Junior Jaylah Butler added four points, including a 3-pointer of her own, and two steals, and senior Jasmin Laing pulled down four rebounds in the win for Sandpoint (14-4), which will host Lake City (7-10) for a 6A/5A Inland Empire League showdown today.

BOYS

Lewiston 72, Sandpoint 62

SANDPOINT — Senior Logan Roos collected a team-high 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds, junior Knox Williams drained three 3-pointers and registered two steals and two assists, and the Bulldogs' comeback bid fell short in a 5A Inland Empire League loss to the Bengals on Friday night at Les Rogers Court.

Senior Tyler Weisz contributed 11 points and two assists, seniors Kingston Corbett and Caiden Gion eight points apiece for Sandpoint, which trailed 43-26 at halftime and by as much as 24 points in the third quarter before pulling within eight points, 67-59, with under two minutes to go. Williams buried a trey, junior Derrick Chamberlain, who had five points, made a basket underneath, and Roos made a pair of free throws to close what was a 33-16 run. Gion and Weisz made crucial buckets down the stretch as well during the Bulldogs' scoring run.

"We got out to a slow start, and it took us awhile to play at the pace that Lewiston plays at," Sandpoint High head coach Will Love said. "There were times in the first half where we did a good job, and started to get our legs under us defensively, but they went on that run to end the first and push the lead to 17 points... I want to give all the credit to the kids for competing, believing for the entire game. The way they competed the last quarter-and-a-half was a good sign and a testament to how hard they started to work in that second half."

Brady Rudolph had a game-high 20 points, including three 3-pointers, Blaze Hepburn 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and Lewis-Clark State College commit Royce Fisher had 19 points and five assists for Lewiston, which is now 13-2 on the season and is riding a 10-game winning streak.

Junior Brock Yarbrough added three points and five assists, junior Logan Iverson two steals to the stat sheet for Sandpoint (7-6), which will travel to Post Falls today for a 6A/5A Inland Empire League matchup.
