Bigfork’s Paeten Gunlock poured in 39 points, 29 after halftime — including two free throws to force overtime — and the Valkyries rallied past Whitefish 51-48 in Northwest A girls basketball Saturday.

Whitefish (7-3 overall, 3-1 in Northwest A games) had a 45-42 lead and possession with 1:46 left in regulation when Gunlock stole the ball and hit a layup.

Gunlock made another steal and hit a free throw knot the score at 45-all with 1:17 left; after Sammie Shors scored for Whitefish, Gunlock drove, drew a foul and hit both free throws with 19.7 seconds left.

Whitefish missed a last-second shot, then managed just one free throw in OT while Gunlock scored all four Bigfork points. Her bucket at 2:37 of overtime gave Bigfork (7-4, 4-1 in league) a 49-47 lead.

Avery Orme scored 19 points for the Bulldogs before fouling out late in regulation, and Allie Shors added 15. Reese Hudson hit a pair of 3-pointers.

The Maidens struggled to find their first conference win of the season on Jan. 20 against the Bigfork Valkyries.

It was another game that saw Ronan do what they do best: force turnovers. However, it was unable to contain Bigfork’s Gunlock. The Valkyrie went off for 30 points as the Maidens struggled to rein her in. The Valkyries went on to win 52-33.

Nefertiti Stewart led the Maidens in scoring with eight points.
