PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Clark Fork’s Scarlett leads way in loss to Sandpoint JV
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 17 hours, 15 minutes AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | January 28, 2026 1:00 AM
Sandpoint JV 41, Clark Fork 22
CLARK FORK — Senior Piper Scarlett netted a game-high 12 points, including a 3-pointer, freshman Vanessa Rogier recorded six points of her own, and the Lady Cats dropped a non-league game to Sandpoint's junior varsity squad on Monday night at Clark Fork High.
Sophomore Azelynn Petersen had four points, all in the second half, for Clark Fork, which trailed 18-8 at halftime, but used a 12-7 scoring advantage to close the gap to 25-20 by the end of the third quarter. A handful of conversions on fastbreaks keyed the Lady Cats' run.
"Transition offense is something we've worked on a lot this year," Clark Fork High head coach Chris Cavanaugh said. "We're not very big, but we have some athletes, so we try to get out on the run — that part looked pretty good tonight. It's tough when you're down double-digit points, all it takes is a couple of baskets and turnovers to for things to get out of hand."
Sophomore Alyssa Porter led Sandpoint's JV with 10 points while fellow sophomore Brooklyn Ducey tallied nine points of her own. Sophomore Bailey Pierson added seven points, including a 3-pointer, and sophomore Cloie Cruse also had a 3-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs, which closed out the game on a 16-2 run.
Clark Fork (4-10) will take on Kootenai at home for a non-league matchup and senior night Thursday.
