PREP BOYS BASKETBALL: Badgers win against Kellogg on senior night

Bonners Ferry High School celebrated their boys basketball seniors on Thursday, Jan. 22 during a senior night game against Kellogg. Sulay Abubakari, Micah Thomson, Conrad Hiatt and Myles Stanger are the four seniors on the team.  

Junior Peyton Hinthorn scored 20 points as one of four Bonners Ferry players with double digits and the Badgers cruised to an easy 19-point win over the Kellogg Wildcats courtesy of dominant first and third quarters. 

Abubakari scored 16 points and juniors Ty Schrock and Jameson Cartwright-Kissee added 13 and 12, respectively.  

The game was lopsided from the outset, as the Badgers jumped out to a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, thanks to 10 points from Abubakari and eight from Hinthorn. The second quarter went 15-13 in favor of Kellogg, giving the Badgers a 10-point lead going into the half. 

The third quarter turned that doubled that 10-point lead, as Schrock had nine points, while both Cartwright-Kissee and Hinthorn scored five as the Badgers entered the final eight minutes up 54-34. Six points from Abubakari helped seal the win for Bonners Ferry.  

The Badgers are now 7-7, with wins in three of their last four games. Ranked 52 in Idaho, they are ranked 7 in division 4A. Home form has been on their side, as the Badgers are 4-1 at home, but 2-5 on the road.  

They next play at Lakeside on Feb. 3.
