PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Badgers fall to Colville despite Hiatt double-double

15 points, 11 rebounds and eight steals from junior Nolie Hiatt were not enough for Bonners Ferry High School, who fell to the Colville Crimson Hawks by five points in a low scoring game on Jan. 23 at home.
Junior Taren Bateman led the team with 19 points and three assists and junior Eva Willis grabbed seven rebounds.
It was the Badgers who jumped out to a 15-12 lead at the start of the first quarter, before their offense was completely stifled by the Crimson Hawks, who allowed just six points in the second quarter to go into halftime leading 24-21.
With 3:45 left in the third quarter, the game was tied at 31. With time running out in the period and a two-point lead, the Crismon Hawks missed a wide-open layup that could have given them a four-point advantage.
In a game of fine margins, a three pointer from Hiatt with less than five minutes remaining in the fourth quarter would have given Bonners Ferry the lead. However, the shot rimmed out, Colville got the rebound, scored and the game slipped out of the Badgers grasp.
