A free, family-friendly community contra dance will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave.
Co-hosted by the library and the Spokane Folklore Society, the first in the Sunday Matinee Contra Dance series will feature the Huckleberry String Band with Arvid Lundin.
Caller Penn Fix will teach easy-to-learn dances such as contra dances, Virginia reels, squares and circle dances. Throughout the series, bands will play old-time fiddle tunes from Irish, French Canadian, Scottish and Appalachian traditions.
Crooked Quilt will perform March 1. The Huckleberry String Band with Arvid Lundin will return April 12.
The dances are open to the public. Couples, singles and families are all welcome.
