A woman was rescued by firefighters after being trapped inside a home during a fire early Friday.
“We did find someone who was injured in the fire, and that patient was taken and treated at Kootenai Health," Deputy Fire Marshal Seth Hohenstreet said.
The patient's condition was not available late Friday.
Kootenai County Fire and Rescue firefighters and Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded about 1:20 a.m. to a report of a structure fire with possible trapped occupants in the 1300 block of North American Drive near Post Falls.
They found the two-story home fully engulfed, with flames coming out a lower window in the front of the house.
“We live right next door and we heard a scream right before the fire trucks arrived, it must have been about 1:15,” said neighbor Angelena Chesney.
Several occupants were outside the home and told deputies that another occupant was unaccounted for, a KCSO press release said.
Firefighters located the missing female at the rear of the residence, the release said. The other occupants of the house were not hurt.
After the fire was under control by about 1:45 a.m. firefighters stayed around to make sure hotspots were out.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“We are very grateful for our mutual aid partners.” Hohenstreet said. “We had fire units from both Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and Northern Lakes Fire District and it was very helpful to have those agencies assist us.”
