NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal rally, but fall in softball opener

HENDERSON, Nev. — Chloe Hearrell, a freshman from Highland, Calif., had an RBI single to cut the deficit to one run in top of the seventh for North Idaho College, which fell to Yavapai 10-9 its season opener in the Coyote Kickoff Classic at Stephanie Lynn Craig Park.
Hannah Brockman, a sophomore from Taylorsville, Utah, opened the scoring for NIC with an RBI single in the top of the first inning, then hit a two-run home run in the fourth to pull the Cardinals within a 5-4 deficit.
NIC was also scheduled to face Central Arizona on Friday, but no information was available from that game.
NIC concludes the tournament today against Yavapai at 8 a.m., then faces College of Southern Nevada at noon.

POWELL, Wyo. — The Cardinals, ranked sixth in the latest NJCAA poll, fell to the seventh-ranked Trappers in the opening dual of the Apodaca Showcase Duals tournament on the campus of Northwest College.
NIC faces Northeastern of Sterling, Colo., then Western Wyoming of Rock Springs today to conclude the tournament.
