Permit burning closure
Whitefish Pilot | UPDATED 4 months, 1 week AGO
Permit burning concludes June 30. Burning is prohibited during the months of July, August and September due to high fire danger. Recreational campfires are allowed during prohibited months unless further fire restrictions are issued by wildland fire agencies or your local fire district. Permit burning will tentatively resume Oct. 1, if fire and air conditions allow.
An alternative to burning is transporting yard waste to the Flathead County Landfill. Composting is a second option for items such as grass clippings and leaves.
As Independence Day approaches and firework usage increases, the public is urged to exercise extreme caution. Fireworks can easily spark wildfires under current dry conditions.
Further fire restrictions and closure information will be updated daily throughout the fire season at the website below. These restrictions are well-publicized and can be found in local newspapers, on local radio stations, and at mtfireinfo.org.
Contact your local fire district for additional information regarding fire restrictions.
Contact the Flathead City-County Health Department with burning questions at 406-751-8130 or [email protected].
