It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Roy Clifford Winter, who left this world on Monday, June 15, 2026, in Oldtown, Idaho at the age of 81.

Roy was born on July 30, 1944, in San Diego, California, to Robert and Joan Johnson and was later adopted and raised by Sidney Winter, whom he proudly called Dad. Over the course of his life, he wore many hats and mastered many trades. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and went on to build a remarkable career that included law enforcement, private investigations, automotive mechanics, sporting goods store ownership, and managing an air cargo company in rural Alaska. Wherever life took him, he approached his work with determination and skill.

To those who knew him best, Roy was much more than the jobs he held. He was a true outdoorsman whose happiest moments were spent in the mountains hunting or on the water with a fishing rod in hand. He found peace in nature and carried a deep appreciation for the simple beauty of the outdoors throughout his life.

Roy was also a proud and dedicated Mason for over 27 years. He was a member of Lakeside Lodge No. 42 A.F. & A.M. and Kaniksu Lodge No. 97 A.F. & A.M., as well as a member of the Calam Shriner’s. In 2004 he was elected as Master of Kaniksu Lodge No. 97. The principles of brotherhood, service, and integrity that these organizations represent were values he carried with him every day.

Roy is survived by his four children, nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, all of whom carry a part of him with them. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Keith Winter. Though we grieve his loss, we are grateful for the years we shared and the memories that will forever keep him close to our hearts.

A Masonic funeral service will be held on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 4 p.m. at Lakeside Lodge No. 42, 319 N. Second Ave., Sandpoint, Idaho 83864.

Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint is handling the arrangements. Please visit Roy’s memorial page at lakeviewfuneral.com and sign his guest book.
