New work by Whitefish artist Nancy Cawdrey will be featured during the July Whitefish Gallery Night at Stumptown Art Studio.
Cawdrey’s artwork includes new pieces on silk in watercolor and oil. She is also offering affordable, high-quality giclee reproductions of her work on gallery-wrapped canvas and watercolor paper. The giclees are printed by Digital Planet.
“During this fundraising show, I want to show my support for the nonprofit Stumptown Art Studio, a fixture and community-minded art studio here on Central Avenue in downtown Whitefish,” Cawdrey said. “I believe every human being is born with the creativity gene, and it’s just a question of how it is manifested.”
Stumptown Art Studio has provided an artistic outlet to the community for 31 years and has been fundraising to try to expand their space with more ADA accessibility to classrooms.
“I always encourage people to buy the original, if possible, and the giclee is a great alternative, especially for younger families and people who have second homes and VRBOs,” Cawdrey said. “Most people would not know the difference between the original and the reproduction.”
Cawdrey grew up living all over the world with her family, learning oil painting in college in Paris, watercolor in England in her twenties, and silk painting on vacation in Hawaii. She is best known for her vibrant silk paintings, especially a series of Glacier Park pieces teeming with critters. She is represented by the West Lives on Gallery in Jackson Hole, Sorrel Sky Gallery in Santa Fe and Cawdrey Gallery in Whitefish at 206 Lupfer Ave. She also participates in museum shows in Montana, Wyoming, Texas and the Coors Art Show in Denver.
The exhibit is at Stumptown Art Studio on Thursday, July 2 from 6 - 8 p.m. and will include live music by Todd Cowart, light appetizers and refreshments.
