Courtesy photo The St. Maries All-Stars won the Idaho District 1 Little League softball championship last weekend at Volunteer Park in Spirit Lake. St. Maries defeated Timberlake 2-0 in a best-of-3 series to advance to the state finals this weekend at Hillside Park in North Boise. St. Maries will face Northwest Ada in a best-of-3 series. Game 1 is Friday at 6 p.m. PDT, Game 2 is Saturday at 11 a.m. and Game 3, if necessary, is Sunday at 11 a.m. The winner advances to the Northwest Regional tournament July 18-23 in San Bernardino, Calif. Courtesy photo The Coeur d'Alene Crush finished runner-up in the 18U division in last weekend's Montana Rumble softball tournament in Missoula. After a 7–6 extra-inning comeback victory over the Hamilton Hotshots in the semifinals, the Crush battled the Billings Blizzard in the rain, pushing the championship game into extra innings before coming up one run short in a 4–3 defeat. The Crush went 5-1 in the tournament, outscoring their opponents 50–13. The Crush is headed to the Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia, next week. Photo by KAYLEAN MAY The Sting Soccer Club 2013 girls academy team competed in the Girls Academy Aspire playoffs in Norco, Calif., last weekend. 16 teams from across the country in the U13 age group made it to the playoffs. On Thursday, the Sting played against Houston Surf and lost 3-1. On Friday, they faced Seacoast United Massachusetts, and came up with a 4-4 draw. On Saturday, the Sting played City SC South Bay Los Angeles and lost 2-0. The playoffs mark the end of the Sting's 2025-26 season, in which the team won the Pacific Northwest Conference, placed third in the nation in league standings, and led the nation in goals scored.
