As part of the "Sharing the Spirit of America" observance on July 8, the community is invited to participate in a sidewalk chalk art contest outside the Boundary County Courthouse.

The event, organized by the Boundary County Historical Society, will feature a public reading of the Declaration of Independence by local elected officials. Representatives from the city of Bonners Ferry and Kootenai Tribe of Idaho are expected to attend, while the Bonners Ferry High School band and local veterans organizations are also slated to participate in the program.

The free contest will feature an "America" theme and will be open from Monday, July 6, through 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 8. Participants can create their artwork along the courthouse sidewalks and will be eligible for prizes for top entries in various age groups.

To participate, individuals should stop by the Boundary County Clerk's Office, Room 22, beginning July 6 to receive a registration form, a sidewalk location assignment and chalk. Participants will be asked to provide their name, age, and phone number.

Organizers encourage both children and adults to take part. Entries will remain on display during the July 8 "Sharing the Spirit of America" program, which begins at 2:30 p.m. on the courthouse lawn and includes a public reading of the Declaration of Independence. The first 50 attendees at the program will also receive a special gift.
