Libby sweeps A Lakers in twin bill

Brody Gilmore picked up a pair of hits as the Libby Loggers defeated the Kalispell A Lakers in the opening game of an American Legion baseball doubleheader Thursday.


Libby jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning before the Lakers answered with three runs in the bottom half to tie the game. 


The Loggers regained the lead with a run in the second and added two more in the third to pull away. Gilmore, Ian Thom and Bransen Holzer each drove in a run. Libby stole 10 bases in the victory. 


Luke Driear went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Lakers, while Landen Jacobson also had two hits. 


Wyatt Sharp struck out five over four innings for Kalispell, allowing eight runs, four earned, on three hits. Dalton Cannon earned the win for Libby after allowing three runs, one earned, on four hits over 5 1/3 innings while striking out six. 


The Loggers completed the sweep later in the evening with a five-run seventh to take an 11-7 decision. 


Jack Nagle hit a two-run single in the seventh to give Libby the lead and start the outburst. Holzer added another RBI single before two runs came in on a sacrifice fly. 


Jacobsen picked up two more hits in the loss, and drove in a pair of runs for the Lakers. 


Holzer and Boe Miles split duties on the mound for Libby, each going three-plus innings.
