SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Sharks' annual open water swim, the Shark Attack Open Water Swim, is returning for a second year to City Beach on the final day of July.
Hosted the day before the Long Bridge Swim, the event is designed to boost inexperienced swimmers' confidence in the open water of Lake Pend Oreille. The swimmers will be "racing" 400 meters in the open water with plenty of supervision and encouragement along the way, according to the Sandpoint Sharks.
"Whether your swimmer is looking to try something new, build confidence, or simply enjoy a summer morning in the water with friends, this event is all about fun, encouragement, and community," Sandpoint Sharks officials said in a press release.
Following the event, there will be treats for the swimmers to enjoy while they spend the morning on the shore of the region's most iconic lake.
The 400-meter race starts at 9 a.m. on Friday, July 31. It costs $30 to participate, with all of the proceeds going toward the Sandpoint Sharks Swim Club.
To sign up for the event, residents can visit runsignup.com/race/id/sandpoint/sharkattackopenwaterswimID or follow Shark Attack Open Water Swim on Facebook.
