Range Riders bats roll past Mobiles

Jacob Steele doubled and drove in three runs as the Glacier Range Riders raced past the RedPocket Mobiles 9-4 Friday in Pioneer League Baseball at Glacier Bank Park.

Steele had two hits in the game and accounted for five runs, coming across twice. 

Alex Fernandes had four hits in the game, including a double and a triple, he drove in one and scored twice. 

Glacier (25-15) fell behind in the first as Jordan Harrison-Dudley hit his 14th home run of the season, a solo shot to center field. 

Fernandes tied the game in the bottom half, scoring on an error. In the second, Glacier found a two run double from Steele to give the Range Riders the lead. Kyle Ashworth made it 4-1 with an RBI groundout later in the frame. 

The Mobiles (9-31) answered back though with Kishon Frett scoring one on a single to left in the third. Then in the fifth, Justin Johnson hit his 14th homer of the season to tie the game at four. The 14 homers have Harrison-Dudley and Johnson tied for second in the league. 

Donovan Ratfield restored Glacier’s lead with an RBI groundout in the fifth. 

Steele knocked in another run in the sixth with a single to left, then was driven in by Fernandes’ triple to left. 

Tommy Rover and Ratfield added RBI singles in the final two innings to secure the win. 

The Range Riders got four innings from started Chris Canada, allowing two runs on five hits. He sat down six. 

Ricky Tibbett picked up the win in relief, tossing two innings. He allowed a pair of runs on one hit. Lance Wad and Jack Maruskin also came on in relief. 

The win is Glacier’s seventh straight against the Mobiles. The Range Riders swept them in a six-game set earlier this season. 

The teams resume the three-game set Saturday at 7:05 p.m. with fireworks to follow the game.
