BROWN TERMINATES CONTRACT

Sandpoint Mayor Lester Brown has given Eagle Enterprises 30 days’ notice that its contract for pet control with the city is ended, a belated result of a June 14 city council move ordering the mayor to hire a pet control officer immediately. Brown did not hire one, saying he was concerned with the cost if the city hired an officer while the contract was in effect. Gene Holt, Public Safety Committee chair, said cost should not be the most important issue. “I don’t care about the money. I care about the problem,” he said. “We voted to hire a dog catcher immediately.”
