Irish Blessing

Kevin Paul Cunningham, 76, passed away peacefully in Polson, Montana, on June 17, 2026, following a lengthy illness. Kevin was born on June 10, 1950, in Billings, Montana, to James and Margaret Cunningham. 

Growing up in a military family, he lived in several countries around the world, where he developed a lifelong love of travel and an appreciation for different cultures. After his father's retirement from the military, the family settled in Montana, which remained Kevin's beloved home for the rest of his life.

Kevin lived a life filled with adventure, curiosity, and quiet strength. In the 1976, while travelling in Casablanca, Morocco, he met the love of his life, Malika. Although they initially faced a language barrier, their relationship was built on unwavering love, devotion, and loyalty. They were married in 1979 and shared 47 wonderful years together. Kevin often said he was first won over by Malika's incredible cooking, and together they fulfilled a dream of owning a restaurant and later operated the Riverside Supper Club. In his later years, Kevin dedicated his time to automotive sales. 

Kevin was known for his distinctive white hair and full mustache, which earned him several affectionate nicknames over the years, including "Einstein," "Mountain Man," and even "Bozo." No matter what he was called, those who knew him recognized him as a kind, thoughtful man with a gentle spirit. Though naturally quiet, Kevin was a deep thinker who was generous, compassionate, and always willing to help someone in need. He was happiest outdoors, where he and Malika created countless cherished memories traveling across the country, hunting, camping, fishing, and horseback riding through the Bob Marshall Wilderness, a place that held a special place in his heart. He especially loved fishing, and even though Malika often managed to catch more fish than he did, Kevin always took it with good humor and a smile. Kevin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

He is survived by his devoted wife, Malika (El Machpouk) Cunningham; his daughter, Sunny Cunningham; his brothers, Daniel and Kelly Cunningham; his sisters, Marcia and Carol Cunningham; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Cunningham, and his brother, Timothy Cunningham. 

Kevin's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Providence St. Joseph, Polson Health and Rehabilitation Center, Partners in Home Care, and SKC Transportation for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided over the past several years. 

A celebration of Kevin's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mission Valley Animal Shelter in Polson, Montana, in honor of Kevin's tremendous love and compassion for animals.
