Mariners sweep Loggers behind DuMont's four RBIs

POLSON — Brayson DuMont drove in four runs as the Mission Valley Mariners swept a Legion baseball doubleheader from the Libby Loggers on Wednesday evening. 


Mission Valley (14-11) opened the day with a 4-0 shutout before completing the sweep with a 10-3 victory over Libby (11-13). 


In the opener, Jake Helser and Cole Wadsworth combined for a four-hit shutout. Helser earned the win, allowing one hit over four innings, striking out three. Wadsworth tossed the final three scoreless innings, giving up three hits. 


The Mariners jumped in front with three runs in the first. Hunter Luedtke doubled home a run before an error plated two more. Noah Agliano added a solo homer in the third and Holden Emerson paced Mission Valley with two hits. 


Libby grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the second game before Mission Valley answered with four runs in the fourth to take the lead for good. DuMont sparked the rally with an RBI double, then added a two-run single in the fifth and drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth to finish with four RBIs. 


Tyler Barton earned the win with 5 2/3 innings of relief, allowing one hit while striking out five.  


Mission Valley returns to action Friday against the Cranbrook Bandits, while Libby faces Cranbrook on Sunday.
