KELLOGG — Kellogg School District Trustee Adrianne Vest-Willard formally submitted her letter of resignation to the district office Thursday morning.

Vest-Willard was appointed to the Zone 1 seat in March. Zone 1 covers the southern portion of Kellogg, Wardner and everything east to Big Creek – which was no longer Vest-Willard's area of residence.

"Due to my relocation outside of my appointed trustee zone, I am no longer eligible to serve in this position," Vest-Willard wrote. "It has been an honor to serve our district and community. Thank you for the opportunity and I wish the Board continued success."

Zone 1 has been a revolving door for the district in recent years. Since 2021, four people have held the seat, with a fifth likely to be appointed in the coming weeks.

Vest-Willard was appointed after no one filed for the seat during November's general election. Monica Ross completed her term and vacated the position in January. Ross had been appointed in 2023 after Chelsea Osterberg left the seat for reasons similar to Vest-Willard's. Osterberg was appointed in 2022 after the previously elected Todd Shepperd completed his term and no one ran for the seat in the 2021 general election.

According to KSD Board Chair Alexa Griffin, the board must formally accept Vest-Willard's resignation before opening the position. The resignation is expected to be considered at the board's July 14 meeting.

Griffin said that if the board accepts the resignation, applications for the position will be accepted through July 31. The district hopes to conduct interviews and make an appointment at its August board meeting.

Residents of Zone 1 interested in serving as trustee should watch the district website for application information and prepare a resume for submission.

In Idaho, school board trustees are elected — and in some cases appointed — officials responsible for setting district policy, approving budgets, hiring and evaluating the superintendent, and providing oversight of the district on behalf of residents in their trustee zone. Trustees serve on the district's governing board and do not manage day-to-day operations, which are handled by district administration.

The next Kellogg School District Board of Trustees meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. July 14 at the district office.
